Privacy Notice

Ferry Scores is a small independent project. This notice explains what happens to information about you when you visit the site, in plain language.
Who is responsible
Ferry Scores is an independent, non-commercial project that publishes comparisons of ferry emissions using official published data. We don't sell tickets, take payments or run advertising.
The data controller is Graham Precey, based in Normandy, France.

What we process
When you simply read the site. Our hosting and technical providers receive standard technical information needed to deliver and secure the site: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you requested, and the date and time.
Your cookie choice. If you accept or reject optional analytics, we store that choice so we don't ask you on every page.
Analytics - only if you agree. If you consent, Google Analytics 4 records which pages are viewed, approximate location, such as country, region or city, and basic device information. We use this information to understand how the site is used, rather than to identify visitors by name.
If you email us. We receive your email address, your message and anything else you include.
What we don't do. We don't have accounts or logins. We don't take payments. We don't advertise or use advertising trackers. We don't sell or share your information with anyone for their own marketing. We don't build profiles about individuals or make automated decisions about you.
Why, and on what legal basis

Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing doesn't affect anything that happened beforehand.
Google Analytics and Tag Manager
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and see which pages are read.
Analytics does not run unless you agree to it. Nothing is collected before you make a choice, and if you decline, no analytics data is collected at all - including no cookieless measurement. Tag Manager is used only to load the analytics we've described here.
We configure GA4 to retain user- and event-level analytics data for 14 months. Aggregated reporting may remain available for longer.

Who else is involved
- CookieHub - provides the consent banner and records your choice. This runs whether or not you consent to analytics, because it is how your preference is captured.
- Google - analytics, if you consent.
- Hosting and technical service providers used to operate the website, which process server and security information on our behalf.
- Nobody else. We don't pass your information to ferry operators.
When you follow a link to a ferry operator, you leave Ferry Scores and the operator's own privacy policy applies. We do not deliberately send ferry operators your contact details or Ferry Scores analytics data. Your browser may provide ordinary technical information when opening an external website.
Information leaving the EEA
Some providers may process information outside France and the EEA, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the safeguards required by the GDPR, such as European Commission adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to our using it. You can ask for it in a portable format where that applies, and you can withdraw consent at any time.

Cookies
Optional cookies are only set after you agree. You can change your mind at any time through Cookie settings in the site footer. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
Complaints
Please tell us first - we'd rather put something right than have you go elsewhere unhappy.
You can also complain to a data-protection regulator. Because Graham Precey is established in France, the primary supervisory authority is the CNIL (Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés), cnil.fr. Visitors in the United Kingdom may also be able to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk, where UK data-protection law applies.
Children
Ferry Scores isn't aimed at children and we don't knowingly collect information about them.
Changes
If we change this notice we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant we'll say so on the site.
